Quandong is also known as wild peach and is a native Australian bush food that grows wild across desert regions of Australia. The Quandong is very important to Wiradjuri women and many stories are told under Quandong trees. The Wiradjuri word for Quandong is Guwandand - this is where the English pronounciation and spelling came from.
The Quandong has twice the Vitamin C content of orange as well as a whole range of polyphenol antioxidants that make this a wonderful addition to any anti-ageing or skin brightening formulation.
Solubility: This requires filtering but infuses into water to give a pink/ orange infusion with a low odour.
Strength: 1Kg of dried fruit reconstitutes to around 4Kg of fresh fruit meaning that the extract powder is a 4:1 strength.
Adding to a cosmetic product: This fruit powder is slightly grainy in texture so it is best to reconstitute, filter and then add to your product, especially if a smooth consistency is desired. Also keep in mind that any un-dissolved granules can pose a micro risk to a formula. Add as a liquid at the end of manufacturing for best results.
Recommended Dose: There is no absolute guideline of how much Quandong to use but we recommend between 0.1-1% of the dried powder extracted into water and filtered is adequate.
pH Stability: Good.
Powder Temperature Stability: Like many hygroscopic herb powders Quandong can become solidified during hot or humid weather. This solidification does not make the product un-usable and neither will it affect the activity of the product over the short-term. If you wish to increase the shelf life of your powdered extracts you can store the powder in the freezer, this will also prevent it from becoming solid and difficult to handle.
