Common uses: Neem oil is a very popular, all purpose carrier oil. It is used by manufacturers (particularly as a conditioning agent in hair care products), aromatherapists, and massage therapists.
Neem is a medium sized to large tree characterized by its short straight trunk, furrowed dark brown to gray bark, and dense rounded crowns of pinnate leaves. It has an extensive and deep root system and can grow luxuriantly in marginal and leached soils and thrives up to an elevation of 1500m.
The honey-scented white flowers of the tree are found in clusters and are a good source of nectar for bees. The kernels contain about 45% of Neem oil and the timber is termite resistant, making it an excellent building material.
Neem oil is known to have antibacterial and antifungal properties when applied topically and has traditionally been used as a natural insect repellant. Its high fatty acid content makes it an excellent moisturiser.
Consistency: Typical and characteristic of carrier oils
Absorption: Absorbs into skin at average speed, slight oil feeling left on skin.
