Product Description
Ingredients: Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract.
Soapwort is a member of the Carnation family. Its name gives you a clue to its function – Saponaria is Latin for Sapo which means soap meaning that this extract has a traditional use as a cleansing extract. The extract contains a high proportion of natural saponins in the roots which lather when placed in water. The soaping action is very gentle and as such is best suited to ultra-mild cleansing products such as baby or intimate wipes, micellar waters, refreshing spritz washes or sensitive skin washes. The extract can be added to regular shampoo or wash products for a gentle, natural soap boost if desired. This extract is made using the plants aereal parts.
Solubility: This extract has a high degree of water solubility as supplied but it may produce a cloudy-ish brown solution indicative of the fact that the extract won’t fully solubilise. Be prepared to filter the extract before adding it to your formulation.
Activity: The herb contains an average of 27% Saponins (natural soaps)
Typical Dose: 1- 10% as supplied.
Heat Stability: Very high. You could use this as your water phase in an emulsion and heat it but it is more typical to use this as an extract and add it at the end of manufacturing.
Cosmetic Function: Soaping, cleansing, degreasing agent.
