Spinach is a great source of vitamins and minerals and as such this extract is a useful addition to any active skin care. The leaf extract is highly water soluble but we do recommend mixing up a stock solution and then filtering that prior to adding the spinach 'juice' to your formula. A stock solution is made by simply adding a proportion of the powdered extracts to water, dissolving it as best as possible then filtering that. The resulting fluid can then be used as your water phase or you can use a proportion of it.
This extract is 4:1 strength which means it is 4 times stronger than fresh spinach juice.
Vitamins found in Spinach include:
Vitamin A
Vitamin C
Minerals include:
Calcium
Iron
The extract also contains a proportion of soluble fiber which can work as a humectant in skin and hair care, helping to bind moisture.
Typically people will use between 0.5-5% of powdered extract in their product which translates to spinach juice of 100% strength down to 10% strength.
When making a stock solution it is typical for a more concentrated solution to be made and then preserved to be dosed in at lower levels across different formulations. You could make a stock solution by taking 20%of spinach powder and mixing it with 80% of water and preserative to make a 500 x strength solution. Every 1% of that you pop into your formula would contain equivalent of 5% strength fresh spinach juice.
