Supplier Information: We work with a supplier in Somalia who, for years, exclusively provided gum resins (Frankincense and Myrrh) to industries, primarily in Europe and the US. Recently, our supplier made the significant decision to equip their facilities to distil the essential oils locally rather than solely selling the raw gums.
The distillation of these gums is a complex process, requiring specialised knowledge. The gum must be heated, becoming viscous, almost liquid, and extremely sticky. As a result, the distillation cannot be carried out in the same way or with the same equipment used for most plants.
The collection of Frankincense resin involves several key steps:
This harvesting is carried out by local communities, providing them with regular income. Additionally, our supplier has established a foundation to support these communities, focusing on three main areas: education, health, and nutrition.
