INCI Name: Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer , Diheptyl Succinate
Origin: 100% Natural containing sustainably sourced vegetable material.
Production Method: Capryloyl= caprylic acid from Coconut, Glycerine = a bi-product of fatty acid production from coconut. Sebacic Acid = from castor oil. The reaction is 100% renewable and involves the use of no solvents or petrochemicals. The only by-product of the reaction is water and the process is highly energy efficient. This represents green chemistry at its best!
Appearance, Odour: This is a crystal clear pourable liquid. It has a strong characteristic odour which can be off-putting at first. However, once formulated into a base the aroma either disapears or can be masked by a fragrance, essential oil or preservative. The slightly plastic-like odour is recognisable as sebacic acid is used in the production of many industrial products including polymers and plasticisers. It is however, completely natural.
Application: This is a great natural alternative to dimethicone 350 fluid as it gives a high shine, has excellent spreading properties and is also great at pigment wetting and dispersing. It can be used as an emollient in skin care products or as part of a hair conditioning formula. It is also useful in suncare and colour cosmetics.
Use Levels: from 1-10% added to the oil phase.
Note: This is not a drop-in replacement to dimethicone but it does have very similar properties and feel. Therefore it is necessary to run some trials before adopting this new technology.
