Erythrulose is a sugar-derived self-tan enhancer. Its combined use with DHA is patent protected but as a stand-alone active it can be used at varying concentrations to create a range of finishes from light sun-kissed to a deeper glow when used on lighter skin tones.
Origin: Biotechnology. This ingredient is produced via a bacterial fermentation reaction and is found in nature in raspberries (giving them the red colour).
Usage: For dermal cosmetic use only, maximum concentration allowed 2.4%, not to be used in eye products.
Storage: Keep refrigerated
Formulating Tips: Make sure that this ingredient is kept in the fridge to prevent it becoming contaminated by microbes and from spoiling. The ingredient works best at a slightly acidic finished product pH of around 4.5-5.5 and it is generally incompatible with acrylate based thickeners and inorganic sunscreen actives. Erythrulose has been found to extend the life of a fake tan and ensure that it wears off more gradually and evenly. Tans usually last from 2-10 days depending on application rate, skin type and activity levels.
Ingredient pH as supplied: 2.0-3.5
