Behentrimonium Chloride is a cationic surfactant that functions as an antistatic agent and a hair conditioning agent in cosmetic hair care formulations. As a quaternary ammonium salt, Behentrimonium Chloride possesses excellent stability over a wide pH range and so is useful in a wide range of hair care products. It functions by absorbing onto negatively charged surfaces, such as hair, without leaving a visible film. This has an antistatic effect on the hair and prevents the hair flying after combing. It also provides a superb softening effect for thick and hard to manage hair. Given these properties, Behentrimonium Chloride is especially suitable as an active ingredient for hair care products.
Origin: Canola Oil (approx 60% natural)
Solubility: Partly soluble in water; soluble in warm water but precipitates after cooling down.
pH value: 5 - 7 (20°C, 10g/l)
Compatibility: Can be used in combination with other cationic surfactants to allow special effects with regard to wet and dry combing properties as well as the feel of shampooed hair. Also compatible with nonionic surfactants. Reactions occur with anionic surfactants in the formation of electroneutral salts.
Recommendations: Use between 0.5 - 2.0 % in formulations.
Applications: Use in the formulation of hair care products such as hair conditioners, hair preparations, hair rinses and other hair grooming and styling aids. Can be incorporated to the aqueous phase or the oil phase of formulations.
