Jasmine Wax is actually a bi-product of Jasmine Absolute extraction. The Jasmine flowers are extracted using a food-grade solvent to create both a concrete and an absolute. From there, the concrete is further extracted and filtered until the purified wax remains. This aromatic wax can be used as a fragrance ingredient or as an aromatic component of the waxy fraction of your formula. The aroma chemistry contained in the wax is stable to the type of conditions experienced during cosmetic manufacturing but holding the wax at temperatures of 80C or higher should be avoided if possible.
Melting Point: 60C
Wax Chemistry: Long chain wax fatty acids and hydrocarbons. Mainly a blend of C16, C18 and C20 fatty acids.
Appearance: Amber waxy solid.
Aroma: Jasmine-like
Application: As part of your wax phase, wax-stick perfumes, as a perfume ingredient in skin and hair care.
Fragrance Allergens: As with many aromatic materials, Jasmine Wax naturally contains three components that are listed as fragrance allergens. Cosmetic products entering the EU market are required to have these allergens listed when their concentration exceeds a certain threshold, this is not the case in Australia. The fragrance allergens of interest are Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate and Eugenol. In order to avoid having to list any fragrance allergens in the EU this wax should be used at no more than 0.8% in a leave-on product and 8% in a rinse-off. Going above these limits does not mean your product won't be safe or legally allowed to be sold into this market but it does mean you need to call out these components on your INCI list.
