Bamboo exfoliant is produced by taking the stalks of bamboo, drying and grinding them to a variety of particle sizes. Chemically Bamboo powder is rich in silica, physically these give a medium-hardness exfoliation which can be enhanced or reduced by selecting different particle sizes/ using them in your product at different percentage inputs.
Particle Size
95-100 um.
Typical Use Rate: 1-5%
Formulation Tips: Exfoliant particles are typically added in the cool-down phase of a heated product and usually after the base has been homogenised (if relevant). Exfoliant particles will not remain suspended in a formula unless there is a structure in place to hold them. Emulsions are one option, vegetable or synthetic gum/ gelling agents are another. If you wish to add exfoliants into a soap-based product (liquid soap, shampoo, body wash etc), it's best to formulate those from scratch, adding a suspending agent/ thickening gum as part of your formula.
