Ingredients: Potassium Alum, Dodecahdrate
Potassium Aluminium Sulphate, also know as Potassium Alum, is a naturally occurring mineral known as kalunite (rock form) and kalinite (fiber form). In cosmetics and personal care products, Potassium Aluminium Sulphate is used as an astringent which induces a tonifying and tightening sensation of the skin.
In addition to the above, this ingredient is used in styptic formulations (to stop bleeding) and as such this can be useful for after-shave and other hair removal treatments. As this type of formula is not designed for broad, daily use and is typically applied in a more targeted way, a higher dose of Potassium Alum can be used (up to 14% is soluble in water). As the ingredient can cause skin irritation in some cases it is not recommended at a high dose in tattoo after-care.
Applications: Use as an astringent in skin care products (particularly cleansers and toners), moisturisers, face powders and deodorants.
Typical Doses in leave-on skincare: 0.1-1%
