Our Solubiliser blend was developed to make the process of solubilising aromatic oils to a spritz based formula an easier and more convenient process, taking away the need to purchase high strength alcohol as a stand-alone ingredient.
Important Note:
Solubilisation is relative not absolute.
What that means is one ingredient may soluble or able to be solubilised into another under some conditions but that doesn't mean it will happen under all or any conditions.
For example, you may find it easy to solubilise 1% lavender oil into demineralised water using 3% of our solubiliser but when you try to solubilise 5% lavender you can't make it work. Another example is between oils so again lavender may be easy to work with but you just can't get peppermint to solubilise.
This fact means it is always best to assume you need to test each different combination or formula tweak you come up with and to keep an open mind to trying other solubilisers when using a range of different aromatics.
Formulation tips:
1. Start off with 3 times more solubiliser than aromatic and make a pre-blend of the two before moving on to the next step.
2. Add a little of your water to the pre-blend of step 1 and mix. We recommend around 20% of your water phase be used at this point. If the solubiliser: aromatic ratio is working the mixture will go crystal clear. If it is not quite working well enough you may get a slightly blue/ cloudy looking mix that is not quite clear but getting there. If it is a fair way off (or won't work at all) the mixture will look very milky.
3. Depending on how step 2 goes you may have to add more solubiliser or you can carry on and finish adding the rest of your ingredients. Note that as every ingredient impacts solubility it is not unheard of for the preservative or another additive to de-solubilise the product again. If this happens try adding more solubilser.
4. Repeat until the mixture is crystal clear or until your solubiliser: aromatic ratio exceeds 8:1.
Keep in mind that vegetable oils can't be solubilised this way, we are only talking about aromatics.
Also stick to no more than 2% aromatic as beyond that it becomes very difficult to create a stable product.
